چکیده

The fairness (or TCP-friendliness) of recent high-speed TCP proposals for high bandwidth-delay product networks is generally poor. We believe that the lack of the TCP-friendliness of high-speed TCP proposals stems from their ineffectiveness in detecting competing TCP ¤ows. We suggest a competition detection mechanism for a single TCP ¤ow to detect the presence of competing TCP ¤ows and propose a new TCP congestion control scheme, called Adaptive TCP (A-TCP), which uses competition detection to control the aggressiveness of the ¤ow. If no competing ¤ows exist, a single A-TCP ¤ow increases its sending rate aggressively in order to highly utilize the network. Otherwise, it becomes a standard TCP to fairly share the network with competing ¤ows. We show that this approach effectively utilizes high bandwidth-delay product networks while remaining TCP-friendly to standard TCP ¤ows. We implemented A-TCP as part of Linux as well as ns2. Experimental results show that A-TCP achieves high network link utilization while retaining better TCP-friendliness than existing high-speed TCP proposals.

Evolution of TCP in High Speed Networks

TCP congestion control protocols have low performances in high speed wide area networks mainly because their slow response with large congestion windows. This TCP behavior has initiated new design phase of alternative protocols that provide improved traffic utilization in high bandwidth delay product networks. The paper presents survey of various high speed sender side congestion control propos...

Improving Bandwidth-power Efficiency of Homogeneous Wireless Networks Using On-meet Threshold Strategy (RESEARCH NOTE)

Over two decades, a problem of location dependent has been focused for improving the communication Bandwidth-Power Efficiency of homogeneous networks. The efficiencies of communication links are weakened by the Hidden Terminal Problem.  Thus we propose a Fine – Tune Strategy for analyzing the On-Off communication region. We were observed that the proposed technique had been able to track and mo...

A Novel Congestion Control Algorithm for Large BDP Networks with Wireless Links

A new TCP protocol can succeed for large bandwidth delay product when it meets network bandwidth utilization efficiency and fair sharing. We introduce a novel congestion control algorithm which employs queueing delay information in order to calculate the amount of congestion window increment in increase phase, and reduces congestion window to optimal estimated bound as packet loss occurs. Combi...

TCP Westwood with adaptive bandwidth estimation to improve efficiency/friendliness tradeoffs

In this paper, we propose an extension of TCP Westwood allowing the management of the Efficiency/Friendliness-toNewReno tradeoffs. We show that the extended TCP Westwood is able to achieve higher total link utilization, yet at the same time maintain friendliness. TCP Westwood (for short, TCPW) implements a novel window congestion control algorithm based on eligible rate estimation. The performa...

Teraflows over Gigabit WANs with UDT

The TCP transport protocol is currently inefficient for high speed data transfers over long distance networks with high bandwidth delay products. The challenge is to develop a protocol which is fast over networks with high bandwidth delay products, fair to other high volume data streams, and friendly to TCP-based flows. We describe here a UDP based application level transport protocol named UDT...
